He couldn't feel his fingers anymore, numbed by the biting cold. He couldn't feel the clip he was taking from his pouch either. He fumbled and dropped it into the loose snow by his fur-lined boots.
With a curse he drove his bare hand down after it, fishing it out a second later, his numb hand covered with snow.
With a quick practiced movement he put the clip into the slot on top of his rifle, and pushed the cartridges from the frame and down into the magazine with a metallic clatter.
He dropped the empty frame back into his pouch and put his hand on the bolt handle, pushing the bolt forward and feeding a cartridge
